Visit Toronto: Cafe Bora

My husband and I were taking a late stroll down Yorkville Avenue in Toronto when we got excited about the sweet smell of... something.
Enter Cafe Bora, a popular Korean dessert cafe that has only one Canadian location. I was jazzed just to see such a beautiful purple and cream coloured cafe down a small set of stairs. We stopped in not knowing what to expect. The place was packed so we assumed something good was happening.
In case you didn’t know, you need purple Korean desserts in your life. They’re such a wild surprise! While I wanted to try the tiramisu, my husband and I opted for the strawberry shaved ice (strawberry bingsu). The space behind the register is where everything is made so you get to see what's happening. Let me tell you, watching shaved ice being molded into a dome is one of the most relaxing, mesmerizing experiences I've had in a long time.
The strawberry iceflakes were perfect. They weren't too sweet, but are served with a creamy mix of milk and condensed milk that you can add to your dish to make it softer and sweeter. The candied walnuts are a beautiful little treat for texture. But the best part has got to be the strawberry ice cream with real, large strawberry chunks. It was devine.
The menu at Cafe Bora is small but mighty. Everything is made with purple potatoes but there's also strawberry and matcha flavoured items. It's like a My Little Pony dream cafe. The coffee was just strong enough but the sparkling water added a great taste without overpowering the iceflakes. I'm not a big dessert person so I appreciated the bonus of the drinks.
Cafe Bora has only been open for two weeks but it made a lasting impression on these newbies. We'll be back for sure. Also, a huge shoutout the the man behind the counter who cashed us out and explained everything to us. The service was great but the edibles were even better.
