A few weeks ago my husband and I stole 24 hours away from the kids for a wedding in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Two of our GORGEOUS friends hosted a Saturday evening wedding. Everyone was head over heels for the love, the location and the weather was perfect. As soon as I walked in I knew Naf would be in love too - she has a thing for grand chandeliers.
The grounds of the winery are breathtaking from almost every angle. There are long stretches of hills and if you’re lucky enough to watch the sunset, stay and soak it all in. There are great little places to sneak off to to enjoy the peace and quiet.
The wedding was beyond beautiful. I was a walking heart emoji all night. The food was delicious - hats off to the chef and staff who laid out an extensive antipasto bar and who knew how to properly season chicken so it didn't taste like... just chicken. There were tons of glasses for all of the different wines, everything was plush, light and beautiful.
While I liked the chardonnay, it was very bold, even for my tastebuds. The sauvignon blanc became my favourite of the evening... as well as their refreshing mojito. Château des Charmes offers wine tastings and tours to the public that are exceptionally reasonable in price. The tasting room is cozy with it's checkered floor and dark wood but it's light and bright because of the windows overlooking the back terrace.
According to Wineries of Niagara on the Lake: “You will start in our award-winning St. David’s Bench Vineyard in the shadow of the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve to see first-hand the benefits of sustainable agriculture. Next, it’s on to our Harvest Room, underground geothermal cellars (note: you will be walking up and down a flight of stairs) and the bottling line. Of course, the tour would not be complete without sampling the finished product! One of our Wine Associates will take you through a guided tasting of four of our VQA wines, two from our Estate Grown & Bottled series and two from our Single Vineyard series. Includes $5 credit to be used with same day wine purchase.” That is an amazing deal for that price!
If you're looking for a wedding venue or just a beautiful place to get away for a few hours, I highly recommend you make the trip to Château des Charms. Go ahead, treat yourself (and maybe your loved ones)!
